A Clean Vase
As soon as you have purchased or received a bouquet as a gift, you will want to place it in a vase first. Make sure that the container is thoroughly clean inside. Just being clean is often not enough. This ensures that bacteria, which are responsible for early wilting, have no chance.
In all situations, the dishwasher is helpful, including for a vase. However, if the vase is very valuable or otherwise not suitable for the dishwasher, it should be washed by hand first. If your bouquet looks better in a metal container, please use an insert made of glass or plastic.
Freshness Agents for Your Flowers
It has been shown that freshness agents are effective in maintaining the freshness of flowers. Especially in the summer, they should be used.
The provided freshness agent supplies the cut flowers and greenery with essential nutrients and additionally prevents bacterial growth. Please do not rely on so-called home remedies, such as aspirin tablets or plain sugar. These are more harmful than beneficial. Always use the provided freshness agent given by our florists.
Maintain Top Shape
Even if the bouquet looks better loosely, you should never open the binding. Wondering why it's important? Keeping it closed helps the bouquet maintain its shape longer – which concerns freshness and appearance.
Instead, remove leaves that are submerged in water and individual wilted flowers. If you don’t, the wilting process will accelerate.
Diagonal Cut
Cut the ends of the stems diagonally with a sharp knife before placing the bouquet in the vase. Important: Scissors will not serve well here. They crush the stems, making it difficult for them to absorb water.
The Optimal Location
Choose an optimal location for your cut flowers. This is important for your flowers to provide longer enjoyment. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight. This would cause the flowers to evaporate more water than they can absorb through the stem. To avoid accelerating wilting, also prevent drafts. Optimal is shade and a slightly cool spot.
Water – Fresh Daily Please
Especially on warm summer days, attention must be paid to the water level in the vase. It decreases faster than you might think, as summer flowers are very thirsty. If it’s hot outside, it’s good to change the water daily. Also, clean the container from the inside and add freshness agent.
Flowers: Keep Away from Fruit
Not always is fruit healthy; what is a vitamin boost for us humans is not good for cut flowers. Ripe fruit emits ethylene, which causes flowers to ripen quickly. Ripe fruit and also smoking near the bouquet accelerate wilting. Therefore, please avoid this.
