A Clean Vase

Once you have purchased or received a bouquet as a gift, you'll want to place it in a vase. Make sure the container is really clean inside. Just being clean is usually not enough. This ensures that bacteria, which can cause early wilting, do not have a chance.

In all situations, the dishwasher is very useful, and this includes vases. However, if the vase is very valuable or otherwise unsuitable for the dishwasher, it should be washed by hand beforehand. If your bouquet looks better in a metal container, please use a glass or plastic insert.

Preservatives for Your Flowers

It has been shown that preservatives are effective for keeping flowers fresh. This is especially important in the summer.

The included preservative provides cut flowers and greenery with essential nutrients and also prevents bacterial growth. Please do not use so-called home remedies, such as aspirin tablets or plain sugar. These are more likely to harm than help. Always use the preservative provided by our florists.

Maintain Top Form

Even if the bouquet looks better loosely, do not open the binding. You might wonder why this is important? Keeping it closed helps the bouquet stay in shape longer—both in terms of freshness and appearance. Instead, remove leaves that are submerged in the water and any already wilted flowers. Failure to do so will accelerate the wilting process.

Angled Cut

Cut the stem ends at an angle with a sharp knife before placing the bouquet in the vase. Important: Scissors are not suitable here as they crush the stems, making it difficult for them to absorb water.

The Optimal Location

Always choose an optimal location for your cut flowers. This is important for ensuring that your flowers provide longer enjoyment. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight as this will cause the flowers to lose water faster than they can absorb it through the stems. To prevent accelerated wilting, also avoid drafts. The best location is shaded and slightly cool.

Water – Fresh Daily

Especially on warm summer days, you must pay attention to the water level in the vase. It decreases faster than you might think because summer flowers are very thirsty. If it is hot outside, it is good to change the water in the vase daily. Also, clean the container from the inside and add preservative.

Flowers: Keep Away from Fruit

Not all fruit is healthy; what provides a vitamin boost for us is not good for cut flowers. Ripe fruit releases ethylene, which accelerates ripening in flowers. Ripe fruit and smoking near the bouquet cause faster wilting. Therefore, please avoid this.
